History
In 1892 John Souba ended his career as a grocer in Owatonna and started a farming operation west of Owatonna. What started as a Truck Farm, providing fresh vegetables to local communities, branched to a bedding plant operation allowing John to raise and sell flowers and vegetable plants in the spring. In the early years Hot Houses (pictured above) were filled with composted manure and used to start the plants sold on the farm. Over the past forty years owners Bill and Debi Souba have worked to modernize the operation, and have built over an acre of production greenhouses. The farm and greenhouse have now been passed down 5 generations, with cousins Jody (Souba) Hugley and Jon DeMars taking over operations for the 2020 season.
About us
We are a family owned Retail and Wholesale operation on the western edge of Owatonna, growing annual flowers and vegetables. Our greenhouse focuses on quality over quantity, as our desire is to have the best looking plants on the market. Everything we sell at Soubas is grown on the farm, which helps ensure the plants are ready for our climate when our customers take them home. When deciding what to grow, we listen to our customers and focus on growing smaller quantities of more varieties. This provides more options for our customers. At Soubas, you can expect excellent customers service, beautiful plants, and affordable prices. TIP: take time to stop and admire the farm animals around the property!
